The blooming apple trees - a sight not to be missed!
Have you ever seen an orchard blooming? If not, you will have to come and visit us during the flowering period which takes place around May 15th each year!
The branches bend under the weight of the flowers, creating a sea of delicate petals that dance in the wind. It is a striking scene, almost unreal. The apple trees in blossom stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a grandiose and captivating spectacle. The air is filled with the sweet scent of flowers, enveloping the entire orchard in a sweet spring fragrance.
Our orchard then takes on a magnificent dress of white and pink flowers! When the pink buds open in bloom, we approach the bee hives to the apple trees.
Honeybees, wild bees and a wide variety of insects work hard to transport pollen from a flower of one variety of apple tree to a flower of another variety. The wind also helps! The pollen is deposited on the female part of the flower called the pistil and fertilization takes place. Subsequently the pistil will turn into an apple.
Did you know that only 5-10% of flowers will bear apples!? That said, it is enough to ensure a good harvest of apples!
